About This Site

The aim of this site is to provide a resource for students to practice English in an engaging and fun way. Other similar sites are more geared towards providing teachers with resources to give to their students, but the intention this site is to be a resource that language learners can use independently. With that in mind, I have tried to tailor things more towards students by using less text based instructions and by having easier to follow interfaces. The main page for example only has a brief summary of each game, while the games themselves are quite easy to figure out and interact with. However, it is necessary to have some text descriptions and longer text articles as these help with search engine visibility.

The games are aimed at a relatively low level of English, with pretty much all the content being around elementary level. A lot of the vocabulary content would probably even be more introductory or pre-elementary level. This is because it is a lot easier to make games that use simple content. Games that use difficult or abstract concepts would be much harder to make. For example, vocabulary such as the color 'blue' or the food 'banana' are really easy to represent visually; whereas, a concept like “multiculturalism” would be much more difficult if not impossible to show in picture form.

All the content on this site is made by me - Owen - including all the images, design and code. I was an English (ESL) teacher for more than 10 years. I taught all levels and ages to students in a number of different countries. You can support this site on Ko-Fi.com.

This site has been around since about 2010. Initially, all the games were flash based, but then in about 2015 most of the content was remade with javascript. While a lot of the flash content is still available, it is not maintained or supported. All the content on the front page is javascript, so it should work on any kind of device or screen size. This content also uses a framework called CreateJS. This is a javascript file that is loaded with every page and which makes it easy to create interactive and appealing content.
